A game about exploration, where you travel across infinite worlds, where all the content is procedurally generated.
Horiforge is an atmospheric stress-free walking simulator where you explore infinite amounts of worlds.
Each world is procedurally generated with its own unique color palette, landscape and creatures. There is no goal or any "real" conventional gameplay, the entire game consists of just exploring and collecting memorable locations.
The purpose of this game is to be a source of inspiration to the ones seeking it. Although mostly people would just wander around out of sheer curiosity or to wind down.
"So basically, there are these little pyramids - you look at them, and the right thoughts just creep into your head on their own."
- Rabbit, 2005
Q: What is this game about? I watched the trailer and there's no gameplay in it. In fact, there's hardly anything in it at all. Seems like you just wander around aimlessly, where is the actual game?
A: That's a fair question! Horiforge is a different kind of experience from what you may be used to.
There are no traditional objectives to complete: the gameplay is built around exploration and discovery, rather than
overcoming challenges or progressing through some missions.
The experience are the worlds themselves. As you travel across them, you will come across increasingly strange and unusual things that react to your presence, and the further you go, the more diverse they will get. Any ordinary walk can lead to unexpected discoveries that are truly unique for your playthrough.
Think of it less as a game that tries to entertain you by telling what to do, and more as a universe you get to experience.
If you're looking for clear objectives or constant action, Horiforge probably isn't what you're looking for.
And that's perfectly fine! But if you're open to slowing down and exploring the universe simply for the experience of being in it, or you are about to create something and need an inspiration, you might find something special here.
Or you might not. Depending on which portal you choose, hehehe.
Q: What was the purpose of creating this game? Why would you ever do something like this?
A: Primarily because it was fun to make :D And also I think it's a great way for artists and designers of actual worlds to quickly steal from the game's generator come up with non-obvious color combinations. For them this game will indeed be practically useful, which is more than enough to make it!
Q: How many worlds are there?
A: Exactly 18446744073709551615. Yes, not mathematically infinite, but practically infinite. Besides, isn't it cozier to know that there is just some kind of a barrier protecting against the vastness of infinity?
Q: How do I make a save?
A: ZC
Q: I noticed there are cheat codes in the settings, where do I get those? And what do they do?
A: Cheat codes are another nod to retro games, as well as a cool way to include easter eggs. Where do you get them? The internet I guess. One of the first Steam testers cracked them in like 0.2 seconds so it probably wouldn't be a problem :D
Q: I cound't find anything! Your community is empty and nobody is sharing the codes! How am I suppose to rule-
A: Oh well, I guess they're all on a vacation in Tallin. If they don't get back soon, you may also check the sixth cliff from the left.
Q: Steam says the game features multiplayer. Will I actually see other players?
Short A: no
Less short A: yes, the odds are equal to the ratio of the number of players to the number of available worlds. So if every person on Earth logged into the game, the odds of running into another player would be... zero, because our servers would crash.
Okay actual A: yes, you can see another player if you are both in the same world. It usually happens by a pure luck (no, it's way more likely than probability divided across all worlds). But you can achieve this intentionally by sharing save files or just redeeming the same cheat code. Although keep in mind that this technology is maintained by the same person who made horses for this game, so it is highly unstable. If it breaks please contact support so we can finally fire them.
Q: I spent 40 days searching for a cheese. I found it. What do I get by eating it?
A: Vitamin A, Vitamin B12, and Riboflavin.
Q: Also what is a Horiforge?
A: Hori stands for horizon. Forge stands for forge.
Q: But there are no horizons since the game is 2D, and no forges neither. What's the point?
A: Frankly speaking I’ve been asking myself the exact same question for several months now.
Q: Will there be any updates?
A: Yes, updates are posted occasionally. But in most cases, nobody knows what's inside. Even I.
