You’ll find plenty of clatter, and also plenty of calm, as you head your passenger or freight working along the Buchan Line - whether you’re taking passengers into the city on a cold Winter’s day, or hauling wagons of fresh fish bound for England.
Buchan Line: Aberdeen – Peterhead recreates part of the old Formartine and Buchan Railway running from Aberdeen all the way north to Peterhead, as it appeared in the late-1950s to early-1960s when steam haulage was fading from the mainline, and even parts of the infrastructure had begun to disappear. Serving a number of goods yards and stations, this was a busy line which saw all kinds of cargo and a lot of people on the move until it finally closed after more than a hundred years of operation.
The line as recreated for Train Simulator Classic includes a mix of steam and diesel traction, together with Career Scenarios to help you get to know this fascinating route. A huge number of bespoke scenic assets and textures were created to capture the location as closely as possible as it looked in that time period, and there are operable goods transfer points along the route, making for an immersive experience.
Created with assistance from the Friends of Maud Museum and Great North of Scotland Railway Association, Buchan Lines: Aberdeen - Peterhead is a virtual time capsule and slice of 20th-Century Scotland.
