In 2300 earth discovered The Calder cluster. The American Empire of the Astronauts did send their colonization ship to the cluster. The Soviet Empire of the Cosmonauts did the same. 2 opposing fleets came to the same frontier. A confrontation light years from earth was bound to happen.
Fleets of Calder is essentially a space battle builder game. It uses the in-house engine we have developed for Strike Wings, and exposes that around a deep space battle builder system. You can design a space battle, or pick from one of our 41 presets, and then can fight yourself inside it. Deploy fighter wings, bomber formations, capital ships and carriers, choose your own ship, and launch. Engage enemies in your fighter or open the tactical overview as a space commander to direct your fleet with deep and rich command options.
The Space Battle Builder system allows you to drag complete wings onto the battle map, adjust their formations and positions, and choose a ship to pilot from either side. You can set patrol routes, starting damage and replacement reserves. Save an operation, fly it, then return to the builder to try another plan.
Start with one of 41 editable operations, or for the people yearning quick action, jump into a ready 28-ship Quick Battle, or generate a Random Battle with your chosen type and size. Every authored operation is available from the start, there are no things to wait on to unlock.
Take direct control of fighters, bombers, capital ships or carriers. Send your wings to attack, cover your ship, regroup or rearm while you keep flying.
Open the tactical overview to pause, select groups and issue attack, guard or movement orders. Resume the action from above or return to the helm. Seven command categories offer 28 orders for fighter screens, bomber strikes, capital lines, carrier operations and fleet recovery.
The shared fleet includes 25 small-craft classes, eight capital classes, three carriers and two stations. Heavy ships have individual structural compartments and working systems. Damage can disable engines, weaken shields, restrict flight decks or tear an armed section from its hull.
Detached sections can continue firing with their surviving weapons and ammunition. Dock at friendly facilities to repair surviving systems and replenish supplies; lost sections stay lost.
Both sides fight with finite fighter and capital replacement pools. Destroying the opening fleet is only part of the job: exhaust its remaining ships and reserves to win.
In essence, Fleets of Calder gives players the rich space combat engine of Strike Wings, and opens it up for any kind of battle design for players to enjoy both in action and tactically.
